Kirkleatham Woods in Redcar are just off the A174. They are quiet and very enjoyable. The woods at each end lead to massive fields where dogs can run about freely. One field is left to become a flower meadow to encourage wildlife and the other much larger one is kept short. The fields are especially useful for ball games, dog training and model air plane meetings which are regularly held here in the summer.
Just down the road is Kirkleatham Museum where there is a café with outside seating areas and an owl and bird of prey sanctuary with an additional meerkat area which is relatively new. The museum is a lovely day trip and has many events on throughout the year. Kirkleatham Church and Mausoleum are well worth a visit as are the Alms Houses.
