Heckert Nature Preserve
Heckert Nature Preserve is a 43 acre park and is located on the south side of State Route 19, half-way in between Bucyrus and Galion. The preservation of the area was made possible by the generosity of Gerald Heckert and additional funding was provided by the Clean Ohio Fund and the Friends of the Crawford Park District.
The park has a mature upland forest and a bottomland containing a diverse vernal pool habitat. A mile long hiking trail with interpretive panels winds its way through Heckert Nature Preserve.
In spring, expect to see an array of woodland wildflowers and in autumn, enjoy the beauty of fall colors. Leashed dogs are welcome. The kiosk at the parking lot will provide additional guidelines.
