Ashland Transportation Center is a former Chesapeake & Ohio Railway freight house originally built in the 1890's. The building was purchased and restored by the city in 1997 using more than $500,000 in federal funds obtained through the Intermodal Surface Transportation Enhancement Act of 1991. The station serves as an Amtrak depot and is operated in conjunction with Greyhound Lines and the Ashland Bus System. Amtrak services were moved from Catlettsburg to the building in 1998.
