Geocache Description:

Another cache brought to you by a member of the

OK, last year we did a geocaching gift exchange and heard a lot of positive feedback from it.  So we are going to do the 2nd annual gift exchange with a slight twist.  This year everyone that participates will walk away with a geocoin.  Yep, this year will be a geocoin gift exchange.  Here's the details:

When: Saturday, December 7 @ 6:00pm

Where: Fuddruckers @ 1509 John B White Sr Blvd Spartanburg, SC 29301; we will be meeting in the side banquet room.

Who: EVERYONE!! The young, the young at heart, the curious, the new-to-geocaching, the experienced cacher.

What:  Well of course we are at an eating joint so there will be some eating going on.  Also, we will have a Geocoin Gift Exchange for all those crazy coin collectors (raising my hand).  See below for the details.

Since it is Christmas time and if you want to participate, we will do a Geocoin Gift Exchange, or White Elephant Coin Exchange, or Yankee Swap, or Black Santa, or Chinese Gift Exchange, in south central Pennsylvania it is also called "Kamikaze Gift Exchange", or whatever you choose to call it.  Don't know what that is?  Here is how it goes:

  • Everyone, who chooses to participate, gets a randomly drawn number when they bring an unlabeled wrapped geocoin.  No one leaves until all is done.
  • Remember: the person who picks first always gets to pick last.
  • The person with the lowest number chooses a gift, opens it, holds it up for all to see, and starts a line which will soon include everyone who participates.
  • Each person in order then decides whether to pick a present off the table or choose from the already opened presents. Once he/she decides and the gift is either opened or exchanged, they will stand in the gift line as well.  If they chose to take an already opened gift then the cacher that lost their gift gets to choose from the table.
  • Opening and swapping continues until all presents have been chosen, opened, and swapped.
  • Finally, the person who picked first gets to choose from all the presents, or keeps what he/she has already received.
All gifts are to be trackable, unactivated geocoins.  No trackable tags, no geo-sticks, or any other typical items of exchange allowed...geocoins only.  Don't have an unactivated trackable geocoin?  GroundSpeak has several approved vendors that you can check out:  GroundSpeak Approved Geocoin Vendors.  Or, you can go on your own and find that special coin to exchange.  Either way, the event has been planned with plenty of time to spare to order and receive a geocoin via mail.  Who knows, you may even come across a few coins that you want to add to your personal collection.

NOTE: You do not have to purchase a meal or participate in the Geocoin Gift Exchange in order to receive credit for the event.  If you decide not to eat just come on over to the banquet room next to the restrooms, and join in the USCGA fun.

Additional NOTE: Please indicate how many will be attending with you so we get a good estimate on how many are coming. Thanks!!
