Geocache Description:

A set of three caches between the Fosse Way and the village of Littleton Drew. You are looking for a small box which will accept small trackables.

A conversation about the trees in the hedgerows led to us thinking about the various reasons that they might be for. Times have changed and we no longer fear witches in the way people did in years gone by.

We suspect that they were women who knew a thing or two about the healing powers of herbs and were seen as suspicious because they refused to follow the ways of the Christian Church.

This area, dating back to Roman times; with evidence of Saxon communities in Hullavington, Grittleton and Littleton Drew, would have come under the ruling of the Church. The Church was the keeper of the law and held court to judge those considered a threat to the community.

Mr O's grandfather used to say that the trees in hedgerows were placed there to stop the witches from running along the tops of the hedges.
