Geocache Description:

A simple cache to encourage people out on the water … you will need some form of people powered watercraft to reach the cache. Take your own pen to sign the log.

Ewen Maddock Dam is one of many smaller dams on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast. It has a surface area of 370 hectares and holds 16 700 ML of water at an average depth of 4.5 m. The dam was built across Addlington Creek, a tributary of the Mooloolah River 1973, to supply the fast growing region with town water.

The Dam is stocked with bass, silver perch, golden perch and southern saratoga while bony bream is also present naturally. When we placed the cache, there were quite a lot of fingerlings swimming around. The dam is also a good place to see the large stork known as the jabiru. The south-eastern banks of the lake are heavily forested and protected within the Beerwah State Forest.

Access is limited to daylight hours and no camping is permitted, except at a group camping site with cabins and dormitories located at the south eastern end of the lake.
