Geocache Description:

Elton John has been going strong for nearly 50 years. Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight in 1947, he changed his name to Elton Hercules John and flew to stardom. He was somewhat flamboyant in his younger years, but he has settled down and was even knighted in 1998. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame in 1994. He co-wrote most of his songs with Bernie Taupin. He has had at least one Billboard top 40 song every year between 1970 and 1990. This series of caches highlights some of his hits.

Goodbye Yellow Brick Road

Released 1973 - Entered the top ten in both the United Kingdom and the United Stated.  Certified Gold in 1974 and Platinum in 1995.  The Wizard of Oz was reportedly the first film Elton's songwriting partner Bernie Taupin had ever seen, and he conjured the imagery in the lyrics relating to his own life as his desire to "get back to [his] roots"
