The unique building located here started in 1960 as a country store and a way for a couple of college students to capitalize on the miners of Ester Valley. They quickly put up four walls and without ever building a foundation laid flooring on bare ground to get the place up and running. (Rumor has it that a level was never used during construction which is still noticeable if you walk the floors today). Miners would line up outside after a 12-hour shift waiting to grab a 12 pack for $5.00. As more and more miners came to the Ester Valley it became obvious that miners wanted more than just beer so they wouldn’t have to make the long haul to Fairbanks. As time went on an apartment was added for a place for miners to crash after their long shifts. Additional space was built to handle groceries and gas and it became the country store it is today.
This cache is dedicated to Hal and Susie for their contribution to the Ester Valley and it's residents! Thanks, folks!
