Not far from the intersection of Greenhouse Rd and Newport Rd is a small, historical cemetery located in the Nicholas Farm Management Area. This is Coventry Historical Cemetery #11, the Col. Joseph Rice Lot.
This cemetery has 8 burials with 3 engraved stones, dated between 1828 and 1835. According to James Arnold in 1905, this cemetery was "on the Col. Rice farm beside road, south of the school house at Nicholas District, lot walled, yard in neglected condition, wall good." Not much seems to have changed over the years as it is still rather neglected but in fair condition. No cemetery geocache is located in stone walls. Please take care around all stones and walls.
Please use caution in these woods at they are very popular with hunters. Please follow all RI DEM requirements for wearing blaze orange during hunting season. Regulations may be found here.
