Once you have found the cache take a look across the road and over the wooden 5 bar gate where you will see the Market town of Thrapston going off into the distance 'over and beyond'.
Thrapston is said to have origins dating back as far as the Saxon times. King John granted the town a market charter in 1205. Today it has a population of approximately 6000people (2012) and remains an active market town. Markets are held every Tuesday.
If you take in the view you will notice the landscape falling away and then rising again and going off into the distance. This is the Nene valley and is one of just a few places you can observe this from. The River Nene lies at the lowest point in the scenery and seperates Thrapston and the village of Islip where you are standing.
