Everyone complains about traffic, and often Auckland's traffic is described as though it is the worst in the world. I'm not so sure about that. I've been to some pretty big, busy and congested cities around the world and, in my opinion, we don't have it so bad here in Auckland. Sure our traffic isn't great for a city of our population size, but it's not so bad.
All that said, it's pretty good to see the work currently going on to alleviate the traffic congestion that we do have on our motorways. From the position of this cache you can witness the upgrades happening to the Waterview interchange on the Northwestern Motorway, to eventually link up to the Southwestern Motorway, currently under construction.
The completion of the Southwestern Motorway will mean traffic passing through Auckland city, from the north and south, has the option of bypassing the central city entirely. The Southwestern Motorway, which is currenlty being tunneled under the suburb of Waterview, is due for completion in 2016/17.
