Geocache Description:

The Lake Walk/Ride series begins on Racecourse Rd. and follows designated walking tracks around Lake Canobolas just west of Orange in the Central West of NSW.

I placed a cache on the fantastic suspension bridge on this track back in 2011 called “Lake Walk/Ride” and it has been quite successful with many finds and great comments. With the success of the Gnoo Blas series in Orange I decided to extend this cache to form another series comprising 16 caches.

Lake Canobolas is a recreational playground west of Orange and offers swimming, canoeing, walking, BBQ facilities, children’s playground and all that the area offers in the way of scenery. The area is very well frequented by Muggles, especially on the weekends, so stealth will be required when making a find.

Most people access the Lake by driving via Cargo Rd. but this series encourages a different approach. The series begins at a bridge over the Rail line (Lake Walk/Ride #1) on Racecourse Rd. and takes you to the beginning of the Walking/Riding track (Lake Walk/Ride #5) on Wrights Lane, then on a loop of the lake itself. Orange council have even signposted the cache name for you! If you approach from this way Number 5 is as far as you will get in the car. Follow the series and you will complete a loop of the Lake from this point and return. It is a fairly easy walk with some uneven ground and the caches are all located within a few metres of the track. I placed the caches with two kids in tow in about an hour and a half so possibly allow 2 hours for the whole thing.

I have archived the original “Lake Walk/Ride” cache and re-submitted it as Lake Walk/Ride #6 so previous finders will need to make the find again.

While completing the series, take the time to read the information regarding the history of the Lake between caches 7/8, visit the Pump house, enjoy the playground with the kids and take in the spectacular views.
