Welcome to the Ashland Historic Geo-Trail (WTA). The trail is designed not only for Geocachers but muggles alike to enjoy the historic area associated with Ashland, Kentucky.
Healthy Choices Kentucky is excited to offer this new Geo-Trail to bring people to discover the rich history of Ashland, Kentucky. This Geo-Trail will allow you to explore 15 historic and fun locations around the city of Ashland. Each cache will contain a unique sticker that you must collect and enter on a passport that can be printed from here. (HERE). The caches are all family friendly, not difficult to find and are designed to be easily accessible.
A special kickoff event for the project will take place Saturday, February 8,2014 at the Ashland Central Park bandstand at 9 a.m. A brief ceremony will introduce the Geo-Trail and begin the festivities. Cachers will receive passports as well as a paper printout of the Geocache descriptions. A presence will be maintained throughout the day so that when you finish the Geo-Trail you may return to claim a special trackable coin presented by the city of Ashland.
The limited edition trackable coin will be available to the first 100 finders of all 15 of the Welcome to Ashland containers. The trail will consist of 11 separate individual caches, ten (10) traditional caches and one five (5) stage multi with a container/sticker at each stage. You must return your completed passport in order to claim your coin. Additionally, you must register with www.geocaching.com and log each of the listed caches as "found". The coins are limited to one coin per address/family. Registration with www.geocaching.com is free.
We want you to go into the community and experience these locations and the history associated with each. Whether you experience the trail on the Feb. 8 kickoff or at a future date, HAVE FUN & HAPPY GEOCACHING.....!!!!

For everyone braving the elements this Saturday and attending the Kickoff Event we have made your visit a little more comfortable. We have moved the Kickoff Event meeting place from the Bandstand to the Boyd County Library, which is just a couple of hundred feet west of the posted coordinates @ N 38° 28.542 W 082° 38.351 The address for the library is 1740 Central Avenue, Ashland KY 41101. The doors will open promptly at 9:00 AM and there we will commence the festivities. There will be door prizes, swag bags, fellowship and a GeoCaching help desk for those who attend.
