Knackersknowle Wesleyan Chapel was opened on 5th July 1871. The area was renamed Crownhill in 1889, presumably because of the large Fort built nearby in the 1860s. Crownhill grew rapidly in the late 19th Century and an extension to the chapel was built in 1907.
Road widening and realignment of Crownhill Road (formerly the A38 until the modern bypass was built) required the demolition of an earlier chapel dating to 1817 and sites the current chapel on an island of dual carriageways and sliproads.
Nowadays Crownhill Methodist Church acts as a focal point for the local community in Crownhill and nearby suburbs and hosts several clubs and activities.
