St Andrews Church in Mangonui was openned by Missionary Reverend Joseph Mathews of Kaitaia in 1860.
The resident preacher was the Reverend John Duffus.
The building werved as a combined school and church until1870 when an independant school was opened on Tasman Street.
The church belfry is thought to be built in 1862.
In 1976 two bay extensions were made to the church. The stained glass windows were installed in 1991 and the conecting circular lounge area was added in 1997.
The churchyard gravestones record many of the early family names that shaped the Mangonui's European Settlement.
