Prvi kameni javni križ u Vukovaru na mjestu koje je po njemu i bilo poznato kao Trg kod Bećarskoga križa podignut je još 1805. godine, a popularni naziv datira s kraja 19. stoljeća.
Tada je u objektu u kojem se danas nalazi Dom hrvatskih branitelja otvorena muška šegrtska škola. Navodno su se na tom mjestu, kod Kristovog raspela, okupljali učenici te škole, lokalni bećari, pa otuda i potiče naziv Bećarski križ.

Then, in a facility where today's House of Croatian defenders open men's Apprentice school. Apparently they are in this place, at Christ's crucifixion, gathered students and schools, local reveler, hence the name Reveler cross.
