The large cross near this cache memorializes the first RC Mass said in this area on April 1, 1894. This also marks the original site for the new settlement of Montmartre in North America by French pioneers. The location affords a scenic view of the "Montmartre Plains". It is locally known as the "Roy Cross". The site of Montmartre had to be moved later to place it closer to the railway that was eventually established.
