Just another cache to enjoy the view of Similk Bay.
Winterstorms bring a lot of driftwood to the beach but at low tide the beach here is quite large.
Sometimes you can even see Mount Rainier from here 115 miles away, just to the East of Kiket Island.
A mile and a half South are Kiket and Flagstaff Islands, also known as the Kukutali Preserve. It was purchased by State Parks and the Swinomish Indian Community in 2010. As of now it is only accessible by guided tour on Saturdays but this year (2014) it should open to the public. These islands are connected to land by Tombolas.
The water quality in Similk bay has improved over the years. Now there are better septic systems around the bay. DNR removed over a hundred creosote logs from the water. A flow restricting culvert in nearby Turner Lagoon was removed. The Swinomish Trive has resumed native oyster production in the bay.
