This is a great dam to enjoy fishing, canoeing, boating or just to have a nice picnic. The entrance is free for members of the Lowveld Angling & Boating Association and for non members there is a fee of R50 per person.
The dam is surrounded by the camping/picnic area, a hotel, holiday resort, lifestyle estates, private properties and timber plantations.
You do not have to enter the camping area to get to the cache and can retrieve it from outside the premises. You also do not have to go onto the steel walkway.

Longmere Dam was constructed as a Government Water Work in 1939 and was managed as such under the 1912 Irrigation and Conservation of Waters Act, and later under section 56 of the Water Act, 54 of 1956 (the Water Act). In 1992, the dam was sold to the Irrigation Board in terms of section 69(1)(b) of the Water Act.
