Geocache Description:

This is a guard rail cache for a very interesting location, but it's not easily explored at summer, and it can be seen pretty well by driving by it.  This location is very appropriately called Blue Springs.  Blue Springs is a deep spring with a beautiful blue color (when it's not full of dead leaves) that drains into the Watts Bar Lake right across the road.  I wouldn't go exploring the area unless you are not easily spooked.

When parking for the cache, park on the little drive on the same side of the road.  The pull off on the opposite side would be fine for a vehicle like an SUV or truck with adequate ground clearance.  The guard rail itself should be approached from the back, and it's just a little steep to get to.  If you want to drive by and see the pretty blue water, come when the leaves are on the trees.  If you want to explore, come in the Winter.  Now, let's talk about the spring.

Blue Springs is the name for this whole community.  A long time ago (pre-TVA days) this was a water source for the community.  I have had a hard time finding out much info about the history or depth of this spring, but will try to update after talking to some of the old timers around the area.  The spring itself comes out on the side farthest from the cache. If you choose to explore this place, you will see the rock outcropping.

About exploring this place.  I would request that you please DON'T do it at night.  There is a small visible path that goes into the woods that will take you there.  You will see a few small animal skulls and other various animal bones placed in the trees. This would be the reason I didn't hide the cache in the woods.  But, I found some other things in the woods that were really cool that I think some people would enjoy.  There is a sycamore tree that has formed in the shape of a bowl so large that I could sit in it.  It's HUGE!  (did I just call myself fat?)  Also, there is a very old locust tree near the sycamore that has barbs on it as long as my forearm.  There is so much here to explore, but I would recommend doing it without the kids and during the daylight.  I didn't get to make it all the way to the spring outlet with my daughter in tow.  So, either grab the cache and be on your way, or go on in and check out this really weird little spot.
