Just 4 1/2 miles north is the settlement of Terrero, meaning dump. It was named after the slag piles from the old American Metals Company mines nearby, now long gone. The Hamilton or Cowles mines were in operation along this Pecos River canyon as early as 1882 with as many as 3,000 residences in the mining camp.
Originally, Terrero was called Rudy Town but was changed when the post office was established in 1927.
Nearby significant landmarks are Camp La Salle, Hidden Valley and Indian Creek.
This cache is dedicated to the miners, pioneers and settlers buried at this cemetery who helped establish this community. Your support as a volunteer cacher is solicited to place "Spirit" cache at or near a cemetery of your choosing.
