I was officially out of the running for "Mother of the Year" award, when I dragged my 14 year old son (who I affectionately call my geo-hostage) out of bed on a Saturday morning for a geocaching adventure with his 22 month old sister (geoBaby_M), myself, and our new geo-friend (turtletrax28).
I think we had only hiked a couple of miles when we reached this particular location. He was convinced that he wasn't going to make it and that we should just leave him and come back for him later. We dragged him along for a few hundred feet more before turning around.
You should have seen the look of pure joy on his face when we did turn back around. It wasn't to leave him there (of course!). It was to place a new cache!
Since I am still recovering from shoulder surgery, he was required to place it for me. It also helped that he is about 8" taller than me, so it's in a really good spot! While I was on the ground taking all the great photos, he was up in the tree negotiating his terms. In the end, we determined that he could have a foot-long sandwich. By the time he actually got out of the tree, he had done such a fine job of cache placement that he earned lunch AND a dessert!
By the end of the day, we had spent 5 1/2 hours on the trail, logged in 7 miles on the stroller, and had an amazing adventure out here today.
I like to believe that one day he will remember these good times and appreciate the fact that I wanted to spend so much time with him. But he is only 14, so I won't hold my breath.
I hope you have a good time out here. We had a great time placing it.
I look forward to hearing about your adventures and seeing your photos! Happy caching!
