A cache series placed along the "Walk Along Lake Country" trails. This trail is part of the Spion Kop Hiking Trails. Watch for more caches coming to this trail in the future!
It's believed that the name Spion Kop was first used by Leslie Caesar, a veteran of the Boer War. Spion Kop - a Dutch term for "lookout hill" - is the name local residents have been using for the past 100 years. The Spion Kop Recreation Area is over 350 acres of designated park land. Much of the parkland is bordered by private property, so please respect it's boundaries. Hikers using these trails are cautioned to be prepared for wildlife encounters and other hazards at all times. Please pack out anything you bring in, and exercise CITO whenever possible to help maintain the natural beauty of the area.
The Summit Trail is difficult-rated, lengthy trail that eventually connects to part of the Tower Trail to take you to Spion Kop Summit. This challenging trail is perfect for those looking for a workout, as it has the most elevation gain (400m) to the Spion Kop peak. Follow the red coloured diamond trail markers. Access is available by taking Pelmewash Parkway (old Hwy 97), to Ponderosa Road, then take Old Mission Road. Parking is available at the end of Old Mission Road. Please re-hide all Geocaches as found to preserve integrity of the hides.
This cache is placed by the crossing of the Summit Trail and the Connector (grey trail markers), which connects the Summit Trail to the Raptor Trail Loop. Cache is a camouflaged bison. Bring a writing instrument.
Congratulations to Farmrtim and Mudrock1 (and Lacey!) on the FTF.
