This is a night cache. The trail is not marked for a daytime find, but it's probably not too hard to find the cache during the Christmas season.
This is the location of our first 2 Christmas Tree caches. There's not a Christmas Tree here any more, but the cache can still be found. The original description follows:
Eleven months out of the year, this is just another ammo can in the woods. (Admittedly, some really pretty woods!) But during the Christmas season, this cache is a little more special. Your task is to hike into the woods and find the Christmas Tree. Not only are you to find the tree, but you should bring something to help decorate the tree! Just imagine the non-Geocacher hiking through the woods and coming upon a fully decorated tree! If you don't happen to observe Christmas, feel free to bring a decoration of something important to you. (However, any bulldawg decorations are placed at their own risk!
)
This is an easy hike of less than 1/2 of a mile with very moderate elevation change. Only the last part of the hike is off-trail. Once you reach the parking coordinates, take the trail to the cleared area. (I believe that a gas line runs through here.) Turn left and follow the cleared area until you reach the starting coordinates. It should be easily accessible for children of almost any age. This is also a night cache. The best time to find the cache is between 5:30pm and 11:30pm. Make sure that your flashlight has fresh batteries.
Please be aware that while this should be a non-hunting area, hunters have been known to use this area and appropriate clothing should be worn.
Please join us on January 4th for a last Christmas event and retrieve the ornaments. Cleaning Up the Christmas Tree
The easiest way to get to the parking coordinates is to go to the back of the Tributary subdivision. Turn onto Ashton Old Rd. from Riverside Parkway. Follow Ashton Old all the way to the back of the subdivision and turn onto the gravel road. Just before the parking coordinates, the gravel road forks and you should take the left fork.
