Geocache Description:

A challenge cache for those of you rattling around Santa Clara County. This challenge cache IS at the posted coordinates, but you must meet the challenge requirements to actually claim the find. Terrain and difficulty relate to the work you've done to find the qualifying caches, the hide is a 1.5/1.75. Attributes refer to this challenge cache, not the ones you may need to find in order to qualify.

Exploring Santa Clara County will take you from the Bay to the mountains with a city in between. This cache is along Coyote Creek, which cuts across the county from Morgan Hill north to Milpitas.

To complete this challenge and qualify for a "find" of this cache, find 22 caches, each with a different one of the following places as part of the cache name: Almaden, Alviso, Baylands, Campbell, Coyote (or San Martin), Cupertino, Gilroy, Los Altos, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Monte Bello (or Montebello), Monte Sereno (or El Sereno), Morgan Hill, Mountain View, Mount Hamilton, Palo Alto, San Antonio, San Jose, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Sunnyvale and Stanford. Here are the conditions:

  • Only Groundspeak caches ("GC" designations) may be used to qualify.
  • Normal abbreviations like Mt for "Mount" and Mtn for "Mountain" are acceptable.
  • A cache with two places in the name, like "Palo Alto Baylands", may be used as credit for either of the places, but not for both.
  • You must find at least five different cache types (icons) to qualify. This may be the toughest part of this challenge. Note that each type of event (mega, CITO, regular, lost-and-found) gives a separate icon; as do virtuals, Whereigos and Earthcaches.
  • Completed Adventure Labs count as one find, as long as the adventure lab title contains one of the 22 places.
  • There is no date restriction on the finds; you may already qualify. But, caches used to qualify must have been enabled on the date you found them.
  • There is no requirement that the caches be in Santa Clara County, they can be anywhere.
  • You may sign the log in the physical cache at any time, and post a note; and later claim a "find" online after you have completed the challenge.
  • You must sign the physical log to claim a find
  • In your online log, please list the qualifying caches, indicating the cache name, and waypoint ID (aka GC code). Adventure Labs have no waypoint ID, so just give the name.
  • "FOUND IT" logs that do not meet these conditions may be deleted without warning!

Location Update 10/9/2021: The cache was moved about 20 feet to a new location. The old was was greatly modified during some of the park construction and is no longer suitable. Coordinates and hint were modified.

Easiest access is through Iris Chang Park, which is where the parking coordinates will place you. You may also come off the Coyote Creek Trail. There more street parking further away along Seely Avenue, also at River Oaks and Village Center. VTA users may take Route 20 and get off at Seely Avenue and Montague, or the Orange Line light rail to Cisco Way and then south along the west side Coyote Creek Trail

Please use public trail entrances and do not disturb residents of the nearby apartment complex. Follow the clearly paved trail access if you are coming from the park, and don't bushwhack.
