I originally placed this Geocache while I was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 32. I am no loner associated with the troop and decided to reclaim this cache. This one, highlights a roughly 6.5 mile hike we completed today.
This hike began for 23 of us, 10 scouts and 13 leaders and family, at the Shell Beach parking area. We hiked up the Pomo Canyon train and split off onto the Red Hill fork and summited Red Hill. Then we descended the hill down to the Pomo Canyon Campground where we had lunch and subsequently, placed this geocache.
It's really quite a shame that this camping area is shut down. This would be a really nice area for our troop to take the newer scouts and teach them how to backpack in with essentials and food for a night's stay. If anyone knows why this campground is closed or whom we could talk to about using it for the Boy Scouts, please send us an email with contact information.
After placing this cache we started the trek back to the Shell Beach parking area. This was a great hike and a good time was had by all.
There's nothing difficult about this one except that Satellite reception can be almost non existent in some areas of the campground. Cache has room for small trade items and some travel bugs, but starts with nothing. We were going to put some items in it after it was placed, but a group of hikers was hanging out near the cache and we couldn't get back to it. Please replace the cache as you found it. Difficulty is based on Satellite Reception factor of which there will be little in certain areas.
