The floating restaurants emerged in the Aberdeen harbour in the 1940s, and were used to be wedding venues of the wealthier local boat people, functioned as the fishermen's hall. There were five floating restaurants in the harbour in the early 1950s, namely Yue Lee Tai (漁利泰), Chang Kee (全記), Fook Sang† (福生), Moon Palace† (廣寒宮), and Tai Pak Fong (太白). Only one of those names survived till this date. The ships were used to be anchored in the current Aberdeen West Typhoon Shelter outside Wu Nan Street, but were relocated to Shum Wan due to reclamation and urban development along the Aberdeen coast.
