Geocache Description:

A 500 meter walk along a path on an old railroad bed will bring you to a spectacular view of the Scoudouc river and the old railroad bridge footings far below. Access to the path is at the end of Riverside drive in Shediac. Micro caches have been placed on the path in order to help guide you to this small cache in a rock wall to the right of the trail.

*************

Shediac New Brunswick was once a railroad town but starting in the 1870’s the railroad shops were slowly moved to Moncton. The last of the old buildings were torn down around 1980 when the Superannuation Building was built.

All that is left of the railroad’s presence are the trails on the railroad bed and the old railroad station downtown. Passenger trains stopped at the station until the 1960’s on their way to Parlee Beach and Pointe du Chene.

When train service was terminated, the tracks were removed. For safety reasons, the railroad bridge not far from town over the Scoudouc River was also removed.
