Geocache Description:

Faslane Cemetery is a hidden gem.

Nestled in the angle of 2 busy roads at the top end of Gareloch lies Faslane Cemetery, home to 33 First World War graves and 9 Second World War graves. There is also a special memorial to HM Submarine K-13 which sunk in the Gareloch in 1917. The ruins of Faslane Chapel (believed to be from the 13th century) can also be found within the grounds.

The cache is located outside the cemetery.

HM Submarine K-13 sank in the Gare Loch on the 29th January 1917 with the loss of 32 crew. A fateful day for K-13, the world’s fastest submarine was carrying out her final acceptance trials prior to the Admiralty taking her over from her Clyde side builders. She sank shortly after diving. 57 hours later 46 survivors were helped through an escape hole. The K-13 was salvaged and recommissioned as K-22. The memorial stands opposite the entrance to the cemetery.

The cache is hidden in a camouflaged bag in the base of a large tree outside the cemetery grounds.

Care should be taken on approach to the cache. Parking is available close by.
