Visit the historic campus of St. John's College, which traces its origins to King William's School, the Maryland colony's "free"school founded in 1696. The term free referred to the school's purpose: to make students free through liberal education, an aim that still holds today. Four of the college founders had signed the Declaration of Independence: William Paca, Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Thomas Stone, and Samuel Chase. St. John’s College, with campuses in Annapolis, Md. and Santa Fe, N.M., offers the very best in liberal arts education and focuses on the foundational works of philosophy, literature, history, political science, theology, economics, music, mathematics, and the laboratory sciences.
