An interesting conundrum for the Church in spring 2009, On 17th of March it was 100 years old, yet on the 17th of May it was 104 years old. How is this possible you ask?
The church as a community of Baptist-Christians was formed on 17th May 1905, with a total of 27 members. Just over two years later, on 4th July 1907, the ‘church’ talked about building a ‘church’. Toward the beginning of 1908 the church bought a site on what was then known as Market Road, and on 17th June 1908 the stone laying took place. The new church was opened on 17th March 1909.
The new manse for their new minister was built at the same time; the total cost for the two buildings being £8,000.
For many years the grand Edwardian preaching centre served the church well. With its high central pulpit and balconies all around, the preacher was well and truly ‘12 feet above contradiction’. As time went on the church seemed dark, depressing, uncomfortable, and non-user-friendly, 90 years later the church took another major step of faith, and in 1999 resolved to redevelop the church. The work was eventually completed around 2001, leaving a splendid church fit for the 21st century.
Now for the Cache you are looking for a small container that should blend in a bit, big enough for tiny swaps. Being a Letterbox hybrid, The Stamp and Ink pad are not swap items and are to be left in the cache please. It is wheelchair accessible, though some minor help may be needed to retrieve.
