Geocache Description:

We placed a bottle preform to mark the intersection of the Reservoir Flats, Valencia and Oats Peak Trails.

Headed back down!

Junction marker.

The Reservoir Flats Trail follows a creek-side canyon parallel to Islay Creek. Ferns and moss carpet the lush canyon, willows line the creek, and lichen streamers hang from the branches of the trees. After leaving the canyon, the trail reaches a ridge along the grassy hillside to the former reservoir site. From the ridge are views of Islay Canyon, the bluffs, Spooner’s Cove and the Pacific Ocean.

The hike from the official trail head to the end is 1.7 miles. If you park at the ranger station (suggested) and walk to the trailhead the entire loop is a little over 2 miles.

It is suggested that you do this trail in a clockwise manner to take advantage of the elevation changes - it's also the best for taking in the views.
Park at the ranger station.
Trailhead coordinates: N 35° 16.534 W 120° 52.756
