Farleton is a grand limestone hill with good walking potential, amazing rock scenery and brilliant views. This series shows off some of the best corners of the Holme Park Fell side, and involves about a 3m/5km route. Parking can be found to the west or east - see waypoints. The map shows the suggested route. Coming from the west the caches are best done in numerical order. Coming from the east, probably best doing them the other way around.
Safety Info: Please note that there are numerous natural hazards in the area. The rocky areas need care, as do several of the grass areas which have limestone pavement underlying them. Could be easy to twist an ankle. A couple of caches are near cliff edges or other hazards - take care. Do not try and travel directly between No.2 and Nos.3-4, go around the end of the cliffs.
Cows! A small herd of cows is sometimes grazing on the fell. Please ensure that you don't get too near and startle them. There could be a risk of injury to them if they try to 'run away' across the rough ground or rocky areas. Please keep away and circle round to the cache if they are on your route. Generally, keeping on the rocky areas rather than the grass strips should keep you away from them and often gives easier walking.
The cache! If parking on the A6070, follow the obvious bridleway past the farm and along the lane. Through the gate by the NT sign and turn left. Follow the arrow to the cache, which is snuggled under a rocky nose - quite an easy first challenge, just a simple step up! 3m N of twisted tree.
