Welcome to another cache by Cankid. No, this is not a hard puzzle, just a nice pleasant walk that encourages you to learn some of the history of the Woden Town Center area. If you work in Woden, this cache is perfect for a nice lunchtime stroll.
Enjoy!
This cache will take you to 18 plaques and historical markers within Woden Town Center. You can do it in any order but I recommend going from Waypoint 1 to Waypoint 18. This is a good cache to do in a lunchtime or over a couple of lunchtimes if you want t o really explore the area and take it easy. This cache can be done at anytime although it would become fairly difficult to retrieve the cache during lunchtime due to the muggle activity in the area. I would also not recommend this at night as it may become an unpleasant area to be when the sun goes down.
Woden Town Centre is the main commercial centre of the district of Woden Valley in Canberra, Australia. It is located in the Canberra suburb of Phillip.
The main shopping centre of Woden Town Centre was formerly called 'Woden Plaza' and 'Woden Shopping Square'. Woden includes many stores on several levels. Separate buildings house multi-storey car parks.
The Woden Town Centre also contains a police station, public library, post office and health centre. Woden Bus Interchange is located in the Town Centre between Bradley and Bowes Streets.
The tallest commercial building in Canberra, the 22 story (90m high) Lovett Tower is located on Keltie Street. The Woden Town Park is located across Callam street, although infrequently used because of its location away from the major shopping areas. A number of other buildings are located in Woden mainly housing government offices including Scarborough House (14 stories and the second tallest office building in Canberra), Juliana House, Bonner House and the Alexander and Albemarle Buildings.
The existing Fishburn and Sirius Buildings were demolished in 2007-08 to make way for a new $67 million development housing some of the offices of the Department of Health and Ageing.
To calculate GZ
You first need to visit all the locations. You will only need 6 of the 18 but you will have determine which 6 you need by visiting the locations. Refer to the photos and determine at which waypoint you see each plaque. Each image has a letter value of A to F.
Think of each set of coordinates for each waypoint as S XX XX.ABC E XXX XX.DEF. Ignore the X's
FOR EXAMPLE; You arrive at Waypoint 1 and image A is at that location, A=2 because the coordinates for Waypoint 1 are S 35° 20.291 E 149° 05.124 and the number 2 is in the 'A' position (as given above).
GZ is at S 35 20.ABC E 149 04.DEF
When you have visited all the locations, using the method above, you should have a set of coordinates. Check sums are S 32 E 37.
Feel free to post photos about the plaques you visit in this cache but PLEASE avoid posting photos of the required plaques to get the answer or any other spoilers!
Good luck! P.S Extra kudos to whoever can find the missing dedication plaque for Woden Plaza!
