This is an homage to the Christmas tree that lights up the night from South San Francisco from typically Thanksgiving to January 6. That said, it is humorous to see it up close in person. It is a metal pole with strings of lighted wires pulled out from the top to make the shape of a tree. The whole thing is encased in a chainlink fence to keep people out (reasonably enough). What were you expecting, a REAL tree? This isn't Rockafeller Center.
It is a semi-short but steep hike to the top of Sign Hill. The cache itself isn't right at the tree/pole or any of the surrounding pine trees due to another nearby cache. Starting at the tree/pole, walk south east along the main ridge trail toward the SSF Sign (very unChristmasy). The cache is located on the sign-side of the trail in a large group of bushes beyond 3 cement blocks (yes, there are a few groups of bushes with cement blocks by them!). You will have to leave the main ridge trail but will stay on a previously impacted mini-trail.
Congratulations to deadley for FTF. Also congratulations to bthomas for wise decisions leading to STF.
