If the welcome center is open, please go inside and check out this beautiful new building. There is plenty of information for any Arkansas adventure inside, not to mention the nice friendly people that can help you plan your visit. There are covered picnic tables and grills available too.
Whenever I go to Arkansas, I usually cross the Mississippi River at Helena. Sometimes this welcome center is my halfway mark if I'm going paddling at Bayou Deview or White River National Wildlife Refuge, or just a place to stop if I'm headed to Hot Springs or Henry Gray/Hurricane Lake Wildlife Management Area. Wherever I'm headed, this is where the excitement about my adventure usually starts building. My feet usually hit the Arkansas dirt here and the smiles begin.....and it's not just the free coffee.
