This cache has been archived.

squipper: Although this was a fantastic underwater cache, it has proven impractical to maintain owing to strong tidal flow. Apologies for archiving in this instance.

Geocache Description:

This is the 7th of my series (Squipper in Oman 1 to 7) placed in my favourite locations of natural Oman. This cache will take you on a short snorkelling dip from Bandar Khayran.  IT WILL TAKE ONLY 5 MINS SNORKELLING TO GET TO GZ!  This is a beautiful spot with very picturesque Islands.  I have rated this as difficulty 3.5 because of the need for swimming & snorkelling…..and the fact that it is placed UNDER WATER!!!

The cache itself is a clear plastic bottle, hidden in a very durable black fabric container at N23 31.060 E58 44.550.  The fabric container has a draw cord at it’s base and is also secured with velcro.  This whole cache is weighted down to the sea bed with a 4Ib weight and will not drift with the tide due to it’s location.  smiley

PLEASE PLEASE:-

  1. Using snorkeling gear, undo draw cord & remove plastic cache bottle container.
  2. Surface BEFORE opening container.
  3. Log away!  The cache will accept small TB’s no wider than 3cm.
  4. Place cache back exactly where you found it!!!!!

Directions:

Traveling from Muscat, head East to the Al Hamriya roundabout and exit the highway towards Ruwi.  Approx 1.5 km further on from the roundabout turn right at the Muscat Pharmacy and follow the streets until you reach the bottom of a steep hill and blacktop road.  Continue along the blacktop road and turn right just before Yitti onto a new blacktop road.  Follow the road until (N 23°30.266’ E 058°43.916’) and turn left along the blacktop, which quickly turns into graded. Follow the road up the hill and down the other side to the beach, leave the car here.  The beach is ideal for camping but can get busy at weekends or you can get back on the graded road and continue to Seifa with perfect white sand beaches.

Safety:

  1. Must be able to swim, NOT ADVISABLE for children.
  2. Wear footwear as a safety precaution..
  3. Take water and sun cream, wear a T Shirt if snorkelling for durations.
