Geocache Description:

This Geocache was placed to raise awareness of this park and all the effort that goes into conserving the vegetation of this beautiful place. The garden extends over some 86 hectares, so you can imagine that it is not an easy task to maintain the park. There are currently some 6 gardeners working on the terrain. These are partly funded through the entrance fees. This team is responsible for litter removal, weed removal, planting and general maintenance.

Mr and Mrs te Velde are volunteers who are responsible for the upkeep of the vegetation and, for the last 5 years they have dedicated nearly every Wednesday morning to supervising the gardeners and clearing invasive alien vegetation They have been instrumental in reintroducing appropriate species of plants and trees into the conservancy. This beautiful aloe garden was completely overgrown with weeds including invasive alien vegetation such as Lantanas, Cacti, Mexican Daisies and others. In 2008 the programme to remove these undesirable alien plants commenced and planting of more appropriate species started. Occasionally school groups volunteered to help pull out weeds.
