I've always had a fascination for Beech trees. When I was a kid they seemed so huge, the trunks so smooth, and the leaf cover so almost-complete. Once at the age of about 12 I was scrambling about in local woods in Stirlingshire, and behind a Beech tree I discovered three huge metallic decorated 'things' - I can't remember what they were now, but I remember they turned out to have been stolen from a local Church and abandoned in the woods. Can't remember what happened after that - I handed them in the Police and probably went back to treasure hunting.

Pre-cursor to geocaching maybe - I'm more excited now by a travel bug in a plastic tub cool
