Geocache Description:

A small plastic container

The church of St. Botolphs, Shingham, is a very ancient Norman building. In 1883 (Kelly’s) it was described as having a chancel, which has been re-roofed with slates, and a nave, which has a thatched roof. Today it is one roof covered in copper sheet. The south doorway is a well-preserved Early Norman specimen. There is no tower but, in 1883, there was a bell with the following inscription standing 'in the nave at the west end of the edifice', "Thomas Newman made me, 1738". There was also a curious piscina. The register dates from the year 1762. The living was a rectory, with Beechamwell All Saints (now a ruin) and was annexed with which Beechamwell St. Mary and Beechamwell St. John in 1878. The church is now redundant.
