Tillie Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

JerseyEric: After 11 years of fun with this hide, it's time for the boardwalk fun to end. The boardwalk planks at GZ have been replaced, which means the hook underneath one plank used to hold the container is now gone. Plus, the container was lost when the planks were replaced.

It's probably a violation of Geocaching rules to install a hook under a new plank. But even if it's allowable, I would need a cordless drill to screw in a new hook. No thank you!

Tillie, thanks for all the fun. Over the first 11 years, I've distributed hundreds (maybe 1,000 or 1,200) free Tillie coins through this cache. If you have one of my Tillie coins, I hope you still enjoy it!

Congrats to Jo.Cap on the FTF!

About Tillie

Tillie is an iconic figure from the Jersey Shore beach town Asbury Park.  Tillie is actually the nickname of two murals of a grinning figure painted on the side of the Palace Amusements arcade building in Asbury Park, NJ, USA over the winter of 1955-56.

Tillie is an example of an amusement park "fun face".  The Palace Amusements building was in operation from 1888 to 1988.  The building no longer stands and the business no longer operates, so this cache is not violating any Geocaching anti-promotion rules.  When the building was slated for demolition in 2004, a Save Tillie campaign was launched to save the murals.  The left-side Tillie was saved and still sits in storage, but the right-side was lost along with the Palace itself.
