Geocache Description:

Congratulations to Walkin' Ed on the FTF!!!
Merry Christmas!

A father is someone you look up to no matter how tall you grow… And the best fathers get promoted to grandfathers.

This series “We Look Up To You” is dedicated to our Dad & Pop-Pop! He has always served as a role model to all of us and now to our children. Our memories with him have inspired the placements of each cache! We hope you enjoy this series as much as we have enjoyed hiding these caches in honor of Woodennickel4U!

*In the log book of each of these caches, you will find the hint for the Bonus- Mystery Cache #6!

"I caught a fish"

Growing up we used to call this "Uncle Steve's lake". This is where woodennickel4u taught all of us how to fish, canoe, ice skate and so much more. In the winter when the pond was frozen he would bring the snow blower and clear the snow on the ice to make a hockey rink. Then in order to make the surface ice perfectly smooth, he would use an auger to drill a hole and a sump pump to cover the ice with fresh water. It's amazing to look back at all of the things our father did for us to make sure that we had a fun childhood.

Another great memory of this lake was in the summer when we used to fish from the canoe. We had at least a dozen sunfish in our canoe and saw a young kid fishing from the shore. The boy asked what we were using for bait because he hadn't been able to catch any fish. My dad paddled the canoe over to the boy's bobber, which was sitting idle in the water, and said he wanted to check the bait. He hooked one of our sunfish onto the boy's hook and put it back in the water. The boy was so excited when he felt the fish on his line that he reeled it in and ran into his house with the fish still on the hook yelling "I caught a fish!".

This pond also has a little historical significance. You will notice the dam near the cache. There were pipes that ran from this dam to the stone quarry which is now called Tilcon. As these pipes ran down the hill they also fed my father's childhood house with running water (which obviously was not potable). They used the water for washing dishes, laundry and bathing.

Anyone who knows my father will say that he is the most knowledgable person they've met. This is because he never stops learning and always finds a way to get the job done. He has applied this attribute to geocaching and really enjoys figuring out the clues.

I placed this cache in this spot because every time I drive by the pond I can't help but remember all of the great times I shared here with my brothers, sisters and friends all thanks to our dad woodennickel4u. I hope that when you find this cache you can get a feel for how much time my father spent teaching us not only how to fish and play hockey, but how to go out of your way to make other people feel great.

Thank you for everything woodennickel4u! You're the best Dad/PopPop that anyone could ever ask for!
