An area that describes the passion of many of Al Ain's locals, a Camel Race Track. While there are a few other camel race tracks in Al Ain, this is the only one that I have attended a race at. Cache is in a small/regular size container. Has a few small items: 2 toys, Log, Pen, English/Arabic Geocaching explanation. This is placed just off road, but a 2x4 can drive within 4 feet of GZ. Only rated 1.5 on terrain because sand and wheelchairs don't match well together.
My nearly 3 year old had a great time playing with his toys in the sand and saying hello to the camels and their trainers that road near by. Watch out for Muggles, they can be abundant.
Camel racing is a popular sport in Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Australia, and Mongolia. Professional camel racing, like horse racing, is an event for betting and tourist attraction. Camels can run at speeds up to 65 km/h (18 m/s; 40 mph) in short sprints and they can maintain a speed of 40 km/h (11 m/s; 25 mph) for an hour.
The United Arab Emirates was the first to ban the use of children under 15 as jockeys in camel racing when Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced the ban on 29 July 2002. The UAE now issues penalties such as jail and banning for those found using children as jockeys. Camels are now controlled by robotic jockeys.
A Camel Race is certainly an interesting site to observe.
