Geocache Description:

Strancally Quay is a charming spot on the banks of the River Blackwater.

The quay is accessed by road, but you will have to walk the final 750m as the roadway to the quay is badly cratered. The best place to park is just before the thatched cottage.

As you walk down the hill to the quay, you can see the famous Strancally Castle on your left.

On arrival at the quay, once you can take your eyes off the magestic Blackwater, you will see the fine Tower House close by.

A huge poster erected at the quay refers to the proposed erection of huge electricity pylons from Cork to Wexford, and through a route close to Lismore and across the Comeragh Mountains.

The cache is a camouflaged tupperware box at ground level.

An indication of the delights awaiting you can be gleaned from Penelope's Irish Experiences, published in 1901, where Kate Douglas Wiggin wrote :

Down the lovely river we went, lazily lying back in the sun, almost the only passengers on the little craft, as it was still far too early for tourists; down past Villierstown, Cooneen Ferry, Strancally Castle, with its ‘Murdering Hole’ made famous by the Lords of Desmond, through the Broads of Clashmore; then past Temple Michael, an old castle of the Geraldines, which Cromwell battered down for ‘dire insolence,’ until we steamed slowly into the harbour of Youghal.
