Geocache Description:

Cache is a camo covered pill bottle placed with permission of Medina County Parks.  THANK YOU!  I have attempted to gather some historical information about the area but found little available online about the Peat Farm that had been here, and therefore welcome additional history.  I will add and edit if I get more information. NOTE: This spring, the cache location was moved to keep feet dryer. The "long description", now refers to the site/view a little South and East

This area was the former site of a "Peat Farm". The peat bog was created in the wake of the glaciers of the Pleistocene geological epoch which lasted from about 2,588,000 to 11,700 years ago, the last glacial period.  Ancient valleys in Medina County were typically eroded by the glaciers, then Northerly flowing streams in Medina County were often blocked and filled in, primarily by till.  Subsequent glacial advances often filled the remainder of the valley with dense till creating the bog.  The old abandoned excavator [just to the South and East], possibly of the dragline type, was used to extract Peat Moss many years ago.  Wikipedia mentions the first gasoline powered excavators operated in the early 1900’s.  The trail to the cache can be a bit tough depending on season and/or weather conditions. Happy Caching. NOTE: This spring, the cache location was moved North, and closer to the trail to keep feet dryer. This description, now refers to the site/view a little South and East.
