Art is the lie... (Auckland) Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Growly Bear: As this cache has been out of action for too long, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

"Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth"
- Pablo Picasso

The Outdoor Gallery is an outdoor sculpture garden provided for the public by Auckland Airport. Nestled amidst native trees are eleven pieces of artwork by New Zealand artists. The gallery is open to the public free of charge, and you are encouraged to pack a picnic and bring the family.

No dogs allowed and there are no public toilets at the gallery itself (though there are some at the shops not too far away.

Please respect the art - no climbing on the sculptures. The lake is not suitable for swimming. There is plenty of bird life to admire as well as the art.

Each piece of artwork has a QR code to scan for further information about the artwork and the artist.

“Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time.”
- Thomas Merton

The cache begins at the published co-ordinates. There you will find the co-ordinates leading you on to the next waypoint.

“A painter should begin every canvas with a wash of black, because all things in nature are dark except where exposed by the light.”
- Leonardo da Vinci

Cache contains logbook and pencil and a few small trade items.

Closest parking is next to Butterfly Creek. The sealed carpark is for patrons only but the gravel park next door is airport property. Alternatively there is plenty of parking by the Airport shops.
