De hop (Humulus lupulus) is een plant uit de hennepfamilie(Cannabaceae). De plant wordt onder meer gebruikt als medicinaal middel en als bestanddeel van bier. In Poperinge vind je nog zo'n 158 hectare hopvelden. In het Poperingse dialect spreekt men van hommel.
Le houblon est une plante grimpante qui botaniquement appartient au chanvre; le houblon est utilisé dans l'industrie pharmaceutique et pour la fabrication de la bière. Poperinge compte encore quelque 158 ha de houblon, cette plante vivace qui atteint le long du fil de grimpement une hauteur de 7m.
