Batavia Hospital was formed in 1902 by a group of community minded women. A Leroy native, Dr. William Johnson was a surgeon, who helped in this movement. In 1952, Genesee Memorial Hospital was built replacing Batavia Hospital. It was dedicated as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the wars of the 20th century. During the following decades, many new building projects and the newest technologies along with services were added. On January 1, 2000, Genesee Memorial and St. Jerome Hospital merged together and formed United Memorial Center. The cache was placed with permission from Mark Schoell, CEO.
