The 5.3 hectare wetland area has three main roles:
It is a pedestrian only area, enhancing the natural environment and providing an interesting and sheltered place for people to run, walk, picnic or just relax
The wetland provides a thriving natural ecosystem with plants that will draw native local bird life, such as the rare NZ Scaup (duck)
Stormwater catchment ponds provide vital filtration and reticulation to the nearby Waiatarua Reserve
