Now let's clear up one thing right now... Where you sate your palate and get your entertainment is completely up to you. We happen to appreciate a few things about south Longview and the cache owner has frequented this area since 1982. Enjoy.
This location stirs up a memory or two, and perhaps could even evoke a chuckle to a quick-witted passer by...
- The driveway that is adjacent to the cache area used to lead to a trailer park that catered to students attending the neighboring college, as it was known a while back. The cache owner knows of one present-day local retiree that tells of a time when collecting rents earned his family free, or reduced rent, lodging.
- The establishment to the south has been here ever since the cache owner arrived in Longview for purposes of higher education. A lot has changed over there, but memories of their provender still are held dear by a lot of former students long gone (including yours truly). One of the cache owner's college buddies made a trip back through Longview after 20+ years, and even though their itinerary was tight, they made it clear that resampling local wares was a must.
- One thing a lot of other collegiate alumni, and for that matter, regular locals, might tell you is that Longview has not really been known for its wealth of entertainment options. That changed quite a bit when a local university built a performing arts center. The billboard near this cache is ever announcing yet another local events.
- The performing arts center supports local local talent and music by hosting serveral concerts by the non-commercial East Texas Symphonic Band.
- Numerous alumna from by-gone days can tell you how they served the community by becoming EMTs and by staffing a volunteer ambulance service based on the campus across the street. Those days are long gone, but not a few ambulance runs originate from the establishment to the north of the cache location. Every now and then, even a helicopter may be seen (and heard) coming or going.
And how, pray tell, might one get a chuckle out of all this community awesomeness? Well, if you haven't figured it out by now, I feel certain that it is not only our family that finds a bit of humor in the classy auditorium name. Still don't get it? Come on, look around at signage in the area, and think about it a bit.
